SUNDAY, 7th August visionary, dedicated and brilliant youths came together to drive a youth unity agenda towards their developmental and political purposes. It came out to be that the enemy of the youth is the youth. As early as 10am everything was set at Gusii Stadium with entertainment and speeches from various youth leaders from the entire region rolling out their ideas and views on how we can better our ties as today's most active generation to have our equal share in leadership of our county and country at large.
Elsewhere some metres from the stadium some hooligans and hired goons had converged in a certain point waiting to march and bring disruption to their fellow youths event. Surprisingly, this were irresponsible people who some were transported as far as Nairobi and Nakuru to come and fulfill one agenda of beating up and causing bodily harm people's children. Together with some few paid Boda Boda hooligans here they were making noise, harassing women, stealing from unsuspecting residents and beating children as the they made their way to Gusii Stadium.
With clubs, rungus, machetes and axes they came into disrupting everything. They started beating up the young boys and girls destroying property worth millions and causing injuries to many. With all the muggings, robbery and rape incidents witnessed in town afterwards are disheartening. They made their way to the County Assembly offices hurling insults to every elected leader and the county government. All this happening courtesy of the infamous Omogusii Unity calls led by old political bandits who wants to auction our community to the dogs. They have devised a strategy of divide and rule among the young people. Hiring hooligans from the city to come and beat people's children in Gusii in the name of a declaration.
"DP Ruto tells Nyanza not put all your eggs in one basket."
We condemn this thuggery and evil activities happening at a time we are supposed to embrace our unity for purpose. For those who are being used to drive the agenda of violence in Gusii are well known now, majority being goons from the University of Nairobi and some village hooligans whom life has fed bitter herbs. Our elected leaders must be respected and given their space to play their role in the political framework. We must restrain from this irresponsible and idiocy actions of fighting our own, just for few coins. We regret yesterday's event and call upon our security agencies to take up the matter and tame the rising political intimidation in Gusii, funded and driven by Jubilee sympathizers in the region.
