    The Event of the Year, Kahawa Art Festival Courtsey of MCA Patrick Ngaruiya



    Kahawa Art Festival (KAF) that was held on 13th August, uniting Youth from all walks of life, was graced in a unique way. The event was organized by KAF, under the office of the area MCA Hon Patrick Ngaruiya, who has been very vocal in matters of Youth empowerment and Development, through various works of Art.

    The event saw many artists perform and showcase their talents in all forms art; From Spoken word, Rap music to gospel music. Some of the artists who graced the momentous occasion included gospel musicians KRISS EHH BABA. We also had Street art School doing their thing. The secular music artists in attendance included Chizi Gaza, Mwana P and many more. The mix of artists present went a long way to show how richly endowed in talent the Kahawa fraternity is. Indeed this can without doubt constructively keep the youth busy day in day out.













    The theme of the event was, empowering the youth with talents and War against use of drugs by the youth. The event which lasted the whole day was graced by unexpected guest from the political arena and left many residents of Kahawa west were pleasantly surprised, making the event even more colorful. Through Mr. Nguraiya, the area MCA's efforts, we had unexpected guests showing up at the event, which made all present happier. The surprise guests included, Mr Johnstone Sakaja the aspiring Nairobi county Governor and Millicent Omanga (Msupa Na Kazi) aspiring Women Rep Nairobi County. They made a few remarks and commended the area MCA for the good job he has done by keeping the youth’s talents close to his heart.

    Mr. Sakaja urged the your, as the election period nears, to be very careful and humbly requested for their votes in the coming general election, when he will be vying for the highly contested gubernatorial Seat in Nairobi. He spiced up the occasion and in support of the event Mr. Sakaja gave out Ksh. 10,000, to top up what was to be given to the best talent winner. Msupa na Kazi, Hon Millicent Omanga, was not left out, as she also took to the stage and challenged the event organizer to hold another event of Wasupa na Kazi in a month's time and she said she was ready to support "Wasupa" in Kahawa west in terms of self development and empowerment through setting up of small businesses. She promised to give out Saloon equipment, Sewing machines and many other things.










    She urged the Male child to respect the Girl child and ensure that the high number of pregnancies in young girls changed. She saud this could be sorted out if the male child respected the dignity of the girl child. She further asked the girls to be very careful in order to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Mrs. Millicent Omanga (MSupa Na Kazi) asked the residents and the youths of kahawa West to support her in the coming General Election when she will be vying for the post of Woman Rep in Nairobi county, and assured them that she will have the interest of the people at heart.


















    The area MCA, Hon Patrick Ngaruiya, gave the vote of thanks and and said that he was humbled by the commitment the guests made to the interest of the Kahawa west residents and the youth at large. The event organizing committee Chairman Mr. Musyoka, who represented the organizing team, gave his heartfelt regards to the youths who were in attendance and the guests who graced the Kahawa Art Festivals. He encouraged the youths to concentrate on their talents and avoid crime, in order to develop the community and build up a working and humble culture in the Kahawa West community.

    About Kahawa Arts Festival





    Kahawa Arts Festival is a self help group whose main goal is to create a platform for artists from Kahawa west and everywhere else to exhibit their art.KAF also aims at mobilizing locals/residents, the business community, the Government and visitors in Kahawa west in becoming first hand consumers of the art exhibited during the KAF event. KAF also aims at providing direct and indirect employment to artists with priority being granted to artists based in Kahawa and its environs. The festival shall be held consistently every once a while with the First edition having been held last April on 02nd thus dubbing it a market forum for art in Kahawa West. This will present an opportunity for youth and other talented people in our community a frequent chance to sell their art and thus earn a living out of it. Forms of arts to be featured during this festival include Music, Acting, Dancing, painting and graffiti, miming, juggling, acrobatics, motor vehicle and motorbike pimping, spoken word and other emerging acts.
