A lobby group, WE-the-People, has termed the arrest of National Super Alliance (Nasa) strategist David Ndii as “political harassment”.
Speaking at Methodist Guest House, the group which includes Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu, Inuka Trust Kenya and Election Observation Group (ELOG) accused police of violating the economist’s rights and freedom by arresting him without a warrant.
“It epitomises the tortuous nature of the current regime and its intolerance of intellectual freedom, free expression, thought, criticism and respects for fundamental human rights,” said Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu member James Ngondi.
ELOG chairperson Regina Opondo said the arrest was an attack on basic freedoms that Kenyans have struggled for. Ndii (pictured) is the new head of the opposition’s National Steering Committee that is preparing Nasa leader Raila Odinga’s “swearing-in” on December 12.
