Just like that, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetangula threw their political careers into the political dust-bin by not showing up for Raila's swearing in yesterday. In politics, showing up during critical occasions is extremely important and supporters never easily forgive betrayal.
If it is true that Mr. Mudavadi and Mr. Wetangula secretly met the USA ambassador - Mr. Godec, yesterday morning, before meeting William Ruto later, then they must have fallen for a very cheap trick. In one fell swoop, William Ruto might have eliminated formidable competition in his 2022 presidential bid. It would appear that Ruto probably dangled the carrot of forming a formidable team with the duo in 2022 as an alternative to his unassured support from the Mt. Kenya region.
Typical of spineless political opportunists, the duo might have quickly bought the idea in order to beat Kalonzo Musyoka at the game of trying to inherit the NASA support base. The offer could also be monetary or promises of senior positions in the Jubilee gov't. But whatever trick made them to give Uhuru Park a wide berth yesterday sounded the death knell for their political careers. They will now become political liabilities in whichever team they will be because they just lost their home support.
As for eliminating KAlonzo from the picture, all they needed was to appeal to his timidity. Kalonzo Musyoka has no match in the current Kenyan political scene in terms of timidity. He might have had all the intentions of showing up at Uhuru Park, albeit reluctantly, but the withdrawal of his security and the fact that Madvd and Weta prevailed upon him not to show up made him to chicken out. Forget about this rubbish of house arrest. The guy is naturally a coward.
All along, Kenyans have known that Kalonzo, Wetangula and mudavadi have been painfully struggling to sound revolutionary by virtue of association and proximity to Baba in the NASA coalition. They have been swimming in unfamiliar waters. Nobody can accuse them of having revolutionary spines or even having been true reformists at any point of their political careers. Boys were bound to be separated from men at some point, and this came to pass yesterday
It will take a miracle of astronomical proportions for the three to recover from the political blow they inflicted on themselves, by skipping yesterday's event, after vigorously charging up their political bases.
If any of them was hoping to inherit Baba's fanatical following, I got news for him: Baba's legion of followers has a deep disdain for political wimps and quitters.
Only a man with huge balls of steel, just like Baba himself, can inherit his attractive political power base. As it were, the three men have demonstrated that they own miniature woolen balls, which can only attract contempt from hardcore opposition supporters.
As for me, and I believe this is the case with many Baba supporters, I can vote for Raila Odinga again and again until he is over a century old,for as long as his name will appear on the ballot. He completely gained my trust. He never fails to show up for Kenyans when they need him most, and that is a very rare trait in the treacherous modern day politics.
